I was browsing Microsoft Learn today and stumbled onto the beta certification for the GitHub Certified: Agentic AI Developer. What struck me immediately is how fast we are formalizing the wild west of autonomous coding. Just a year or two ago, letting an AI execute actions in a codebase felt experimental. Now, GitHub is explicitly testing developers on their ability to coordinate multi-agent orchestration safely and implement guardrails. The certification frames GitHub as the control plane for supervising agents inside standard software development lifecycles. It expects you to know how to evaluate agent outputs, manage state, and work with MCP servers. The most surprising detail is that the page flat-out says there is "No training available for this exam". If you want to take it, you are relying entirely on hands-on experience building custom agents in the trenches. It is a fascinating milestone. We are not just writing code anymore; we are deploying, operating, integrating, and governing AI agents to do it for us. The fact that we now need a credential to prove we can govern these agents without bringing down production says a lot about where the industry is heading.
